Dead or Alive (band) Wiki

"Fan the Flame (Part 2): The Resurrection" will be the next and eighth studio album by British band Dead or Alive. It is an unfinished album, which was recorded in the early 90's during the "Fan the Flame (Part 1)" sessions, and after 30 years, it was finally completed. Besides being an unfinished project for a long time (until this year), it is considered a posthumous album. It will be published on October 29, 2021 by Edsel/Demon Records.

About the album[]

At the time of the release of ‘SBB MMXVI’, Pete Burns and Steve Coy were planning to revisit an album that they had started to record in 1990. Unfortunately, tragedy struck and they didn’t get the opportunity to do so. ‘Fan The Flame (Part 2) The Resurrection’ is the culmination of the work that Pete and Steve recorded over the next four years but which was never fully completed.

According to Marina Zacco Coy, “Working over many months from the original multi-track tapes that have been in Steve’s archive for 30 years, these recordings have now been lovingly and painstakingly pieced together. The album has been especially planned for release on the eve of the 5th Anniversary of Pete leaving us.”

The album will be released on 2CD A5 Mediabook and 2LP Translucent Orange Colour Vinyl formats, as well as to Download/Stream. These formats include the 8-track album, along with the extended versions of both singles, as well as Instrumental versions of all ten Vocal tracks. There will be a special 1LP Clear Vinyl edition with an alternate sleeve, which contains the 8-track album.

The links to buy will be available from the 18th August, with the first single, ‘Tonight...’ to be released on 20th August, with the second single out late September.

Songs:[]

"Tonight":[]

The song with which the album opens and the first to be announced as a single. It is thought to have been recorded during the sessions where the band was called "International Chrysis", shortly before the sessions for "Nukleopatra" in 1994. Contains a part of the lyrics that would later be heard in the opening part of "The Right Stuff" (also from the "Nukleopatra" album). An extended version was also made as a bonus track.

"U Were Meant 4 Me"[]

This is the early version of the song "International Thing" (belonging to "Nukleopatra" from 1995). It was planned to be included in Fan the Flame (Part 2), although apparently it was only written around 1993. It is characterized by having a slower dance rhythm and with different lyrics than the final version. Some fans consider it a much better version than the version that was published in 1995. Furthermore, it is the only song on the album in which Tracy Ackerman's additional vocals can be heard.

"Are U Ready 2 B Heartbroken"[]

It's a cover of the band "Lloyd Cole and the Commotions". The original song, published in 1986, has a very smooth rhythm, however, the Dead or Alive version has sounds similar to or based on "Brand New Lover". It is one of the covers that no one knew existed, or at least one of the many fans who have managed to find titles of unpublished songs. At certain times, it is noticeable that it can be a slightly modified demo. It is unknown what year it was recorded.

"Where Is The Love"[]

A song possibly written and recorded in 1992. It is a song with a different style from the rest of the band's songs. However, near the end of the song, a fail in the drum tempo can be noticed, causing it to sound uncoordinated.

"I Don't Care About Your Heart"[]

Written and recorded in 1990. This song had already been heard previously, since it was played during the "Fan the Flame Tour" held in Japan that same year. It was certainly one of the few themes that Steve was able to rework almost entirely while he was alive. It is said that it was intended to be the first single from the album at the time, although in the end it never happened. In addition to the version included in the album, there are two more versions. One performed acoustically by Pete Burns on his 1992 solo album "Love Pete," and the second a re-recorded version for inclusion on 1995's "Nukleopatra," of which only an acapella excerpt has been leaked online.

"I Want 2 B With U"[]

It's the early version of the song "Sleep With You" (from the 1995 "Nukleopatra" album) recorded in 1991. Initially titled "I Want To Be With You", its first version was performed by Pete Burns during his solo tour in the United States in 1992. At the beginning of the song, during the acapella, you can hear a bit of the playback of the rhythm of the original 1991 version. The original version contains more lyrics than the final version, as well as a saxophone solo which was removed.

"Hurt Me (Did U Have 2 Hurt Me)"[]

Song possibly written and recorded in 1990, and was released as the second advance single from the album. There is an editing error in the song at the beginning, with Pete's voice saying "You" in a choppy way. It is believed that there was going to be a transition with the previous theme with the complete phrase saying "I'm the one who loved you". An extended version was also made as a bonus track.

"Extacy":[]

A cover of "Barry White", whose original title is "It's Ecstacy When You Lay Down Next to Me" which was recorded (possibly) between 1991 and 1992. Like "I Want 2 B With U", its first version, which is somewhat identical to White's original theme, was performed by Pete Burns during his solo US tour in 1992. The original version, in addition to being shortened in title to "Extacy", was also shortened in length, as it , the original version is almost 7 minutes long, and this one is almost 4 minutes long.
